Humanoids From The Deep isn't the most attractive film visually and really doesn't have any artistic merit whatsoever, but it is certainly Fun with a capital F if, like me, you have a weakness for this kind of movie! It's a fairly well-directed scene, and tense when it has to be, but adding a creepy puppet on top of the titillation-turned-carnage makes it easily the most unsettling in the film.

Not to be outdone, the head of Canco attempts to one up them on the tedious scale by taunting the protesters by pissing in the ocean. The smart thing would be to leave ASAP and forget the remaining days at the B&B, but with Petri enchanted, it isn't so easy, and the cult makes their move. All of that is in service of a standard Guy in a Rubber Monster Suit movie, with dull plotting and a bunch of bog-standard '80s era loud noise jump scares including a kitty cat jumping out. There's literally something fishy about this little beachside community, as a vacationing couple get entangled with a curious beachside community ritual. By the time Jim and Dr. Susan Drake (Turkel), a Canco scientist, have figured out what is going on, it is too late to stop the village's annual carnival from starting. The proposition here is that mutated fish - mutated into humanoid lifeforms due to experimental growth hormones by meddling humans - would hunt down and rape female humans in order to propagate the new species. Story: As the result of a corrupt businessman's illegal toxic waste dumping, a small desert town is beset by a deadly swarm of huge bloodthirsty mutant mosquitoes! By comparison, a similarly budgeted and much nastier movie, Dagon (2001), was more visceral and embraced the fishiness of the Deep Ones much more than this film did.
