I would also like to say that this course has been a great experience. In addition to Professor Arsham's vast knowledge and expertise in the field of Business Decision Making, the Web site hosted by Dr. Arsham, is a further blessing. Sometimes he would go off on tangents so it was hard to know exactly what you were going to be tested on. Dr. Arsham is very attentive to students' learning the material. I would (and do) recommend this course to all of my friends. The professor was respectful, knowledgeable and knew how to be appropriately comedic even with such controversial topics! Paul's lectures are stimulating, often funny, and very thought-provoking. I am currently in the law school also and I plan on applying what I have learned from this class to my law studies. I love cartoons and have tried to use them from a range of sources (Piled Higher and Deeper, Sketching Science and @redpenblackpen all being favourites). He is laid back and friendly and is willing to talk to his students about any issue they may face and clear up any misunderstandings. Paul Vasey inspires the respectful attention of his students. My job is to get the students to understand the material. The problem with lecture is there is so much info in a little time. On another note, on my course evaluation I forgot to mention that I love the music that's played before class. Really enjoyed it, and made the 3 hours go by very quickly. As with all "grad" students, I felt that I was a pretty decent thinker myself, until I encountered this course. Materials were helpful and interesting. Arsham is not only able to effectively communicate with his students, but is able to reach them to the degree that they understand and appreciate the course and the subject. He is a great guy to know and is very helpful in office hours.
It is so nice to be in a class where I can read about sexual fantasy and get credit for it! Another thing - don't underestimate the difficulty of the lab practicals, if you do so, you will be in for another shock. No really issues with this class. And I must say that those two were the most interesting classes I have taken at UB. I love studying with the numbers and the course was based on the numbers. Register to continue. Personally, I was a lot more interested in the human sections, and the statistically abnormal sexual behaviours, etc. Eye contact tells you a lot: most importantly, whether the student understands the material. Professor Vasey went above and beyond what I would have expected to help students succeed in this class when he saw that some were struggling. I would encourage students to rely heavily on the course textbook (especially the first three chapters), which I found enormously accommodating and easy to absorb. I really wish Columbia would hire him after he graduates. Thanks for a great learning experience.
This was the best class I have every taken. I certainly have much more to learn in this field and look forward to doing so. I have never been in a class where the room was packed every class. I can honestly say that Paul's third year class on sexual orientation is the only class that I have done all the readings for during my entire university career. I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your class last semester. Arsham, once again, thanks you very much and I hope to have you as a mentor again. If you'll open your mind to the approaches suggested in this class, they will change the way you look at everything. Vasey's classes have created a very open and unprejudiced environment at the University and I believe that this is crucial for undergraduate students. Instructor is very interesting.
