Well, we learn at the end of the A Shadow in the Ember that Sera has an ember of Life in her, and that mixed with a drop of Niktos's blood that she consumed while having sexy time with him, is basically going to make her a Primal in the next book. It is a Persephone and Hades retelling without the kidnapping so I was interested to see what a god of death would look like in this world. For three years, they tried to get the Primal to come back, but he did not and so Sera became introduced to the world as a Handmaiden to the Queen, though her mother did not look kindly upon her.

Sera tells him to get on with killing her and he tells her that that thought hadn't once crossed his mind. She remembered dying and being at the gates, before she was pulled back by Sera, whom she recognized when she briefly opened her eyes after healing. While they are in the study, Sera asks why the god cares about the murders. She is a tempersome creature who likes to fight with him more than anything else. I mean we know kind of what happens because of A Crown of Gilded Bones, but that's not the same thing. I am happy to report that I noticed the same trend here. However, there is a lot of similarity between Sera and Nyktos's story and Poppy and Hawke's, but I saw that the author commented that this was intentional and adds to the story, so I am excited to see the direction this takes.
