Movies Like The Book Thief
If you loved the book, as I did, then avoid this movie because it's a complete disappointment. Conclusion: These movies will break your heart in the same fashion as The Book Thief. I felt that this film did well in portraying life in one part of Germany during the years it covers - personally, I was relieved that it didn't cover, especially in any graphic sense, the more horrific elements of the war, as I've seen some pretty unpalattable war footage (real and fictionalised) in the past and I try to avoid very upsetting films. If it weren't for the wide expansion of Frozen and hopefully a strong hold by The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the weekend would be a write-off. Are you after a story of dealing with the joys and tragedies of common life during war? But during the credits, my roommate who was working from home because of the COVID-19 quarantine decided she was done for the day and came out into the loungeroom, and asked me to tell her about what I'd just watched. The Book Thief feels alive and then the final years of the war are crammed into one act, an act spreading an entire story arc, an arc that would be better suited to capturing a separate film. I'm actually a bit disappointed to be honest. I think the critics are judging this way too hard. It is sad to see reviews by those that claim What a charming and engaging movie. With a few stumbles and omissions, Liesel's heartbreaking journey towards finding - and, inevitably, losing - a family of her own is preserved, and quite affectingly translated on screen. So Liesal starts stealing books from Ilsa's home. Similar to The Book Thief, it may take some time for audiences to emotionally recover from this heart shattering film about the Holocaust. I'm not saying Catching Fire will top that number, at least not over three days, but it should clear at least that much over the next five days.

But judging the movie by itself, it was thoroughly entertaining, I normally read books before watching their film adaptations.
