08-05-2015 08:43 AM. Yeah, that's about what I figured. CV Axle Won't Go In All the Way. Im sure it's as simple as popping the axle off the control arm and just pushing but I can't pop the driver side ball joint off. Anyway, thank you all! The RH ones should go all the way through the angle gear an slip into the transmission with only a twist to get splines aligned.

What Happens If Your Cv Axle Fails

Does the cv axle have a lock ring on it? Then you can pull the axle all the way out and then swing the upright in to reinstall the axle. The snap ring is a simple bent spring steel you are correct in assuming you can bend it just right to make it work the problem is doing without reference. 2013 Ford Focus St3. Can't get it to 'seat' all the way. Xoutpost server transfer and maintenance is occurring.... |. Lotus Europa 1970 Destroyed by fire. I have the old one out and I am in the process of trying to meet up the replacement.

What Happens When A Cv Axle Fails

After driving the car for about 1 mile at low speeds (under 25 mph) the car then sounded like it slipped out of gear…The engine would just rev up and not go anywhere. Location: Beautiful British ColumbiaVehicle: 2006 WRX Wagon. If the lock ring is too loose, too large in diameter, it won't function properly and will not shrink down and then pop back out locking the cv axle in, instead it will prevent installation. And yeah, like shinrin said, you gotta push them in from the side of the car, if you could push the lock ring in from under the car it wouldn't be much of a lock ring lol. I've been working on this car for a little over 4 months and I'm so close to being done but I can't get this damn axle in. Jimmy my man I greased up the dry difficult one and it went right in! I can fix anything usually, as long as I can get apart. Wheel bearing grease or grease gun chassis lube are fine for this. Switch to Print View - 8 posts. Good luck getting everything buttoned back up!

Cv Axle Wont Go On Strike

Has thanked: 4 times. When you tried to put the trans in "P" and you heard the grinding, that was the output shafts of the trans still turning because there was nothing stopping it meaning that the cv joint/s have come off the splines of the output shaft/s. New tranny is in and installing stuff on top tonight (Water pump, Pwr steering, A/C, etc). An additional bonus is most of the axles I do slide right in by hand. Location: Minnesota. Location: VancouverVehicle: 2000 Impreza 2. The added stress can damage the seals and possibly the inboard joint. The snap ring gives resistance and has to be compressed to go in so some effort has to be used. I imagine I need to turn one of the axles to get the transmission shaft matchup To go into place. I now see the shorter driver's side CV Axle/shaft has the clip on he end so I need to lube and center it but the passenger side cv Axle/shaft doesn't.

Cv Axle Won't Go In All The Way

Location: ChicagolandVehicle: 98 Impreza. Just got done changing the hub assembly on the driver's side on my 2012 Rav. It goes in until it gets about 1/2" from the edge of the outside of the hub then stops. If so, then it's going to get involved. I very closely compared the left vs the right. 08-05-2012, 01:25 PM||# 11|. Does the CV axle REALLY need that clip on it???

Cv Axle Won't Go In

I normally undo the struts and use the hub as a "hammer" to jam the axle in. So, what am I doing wrong? Could anyone help me figure this out? Been thanked: 287 times.

Cv Axle Going Bad

Doing fluid flushing, diagnostics, VIDA tranny resets, test driving, etc. Busted the carrier ring off, pushed out the pin from the diff, and finally had access to push instead of pull. Any long cut like that and fire hazard is a concern, but not today! Left side as mentioned above but you usually have to get it spline aligned and then pop it inward.

A clip will have to be in place. Circlip to compress enough for it to go in fully. They seem identical. Drove it for several miles at 65 mph, took several U-Turns, did some in reverse…seems to be on there for good! Did you take any fun pics like dif on the bench with a stub of axle? You can always bring the old one back after you install the new one for the core charge.

I have not tried the BFH...! Looks can be a bit deceiving sometimes and you do not have to tear everything apart to seat the inner joints. Tomorrow, gotta work again... Hopefully by late afternoon I'll be putting parts back in! Be sure and check that both sides are all the way in so it doesn't happen again. Once it is lightly tapped in by a 2x4 to 1/8" then it's just as hard getting back out. Grasp the inner joint and see if it can be moved back and forth. I'm replacing the transmission.

Also you can hit the axle in with a mini sledge hammer with a piece of wood between it if it's still being stubborn or put the axle nut on and put the socket over it and hit that. I would chuck up a big drill bit that can just fit with some tape wrapped around to make it snug then turn it say 50-60 rpm like driving slow highway speeds just to make sure it didn't get damaged from the binding and pounding. You don't have to give it to them before you order it. You cannot imagine how depressing it was using a slide hammer for hours on end with no result. A very subtle "brrrrr" and no more moving. Is there a trick to getting it in all the way? Just drop the diff down a bit and 'slam' the axles back will go. Join Date: Mar 2000.

Join Date: Sep 2005. Last post by erikv11. Can't imagine what a shop would have charged me for this! Did you not see the pics from my post today? Trusty hydraulic press to the rescue! I didn't have enough clearance for air tools. Sometimes the clips can prevent the shaft from being pushed into the transmission completely.

I could see it plausibly disengaging from the spines... gonna rework the clip so it's more round before inserting. I'll have to go back and check. A lot of people skip this step but a little grease on those spring clips goes a long way towards avoiding issues like this. Oh, also, since I intend to replace the seals on either side of this thing (and the o-rings), I've heard a few people say you have to take the differential out first, but I'm trying not to. Something in the differential part of the transaxle assembly is out of whack. Last post by E Showell. Not unless the suspension was undone, in which case I'm thinking the CV would be the least of my problems.
