Tudor is a fierce talent: a writer who blurs genre lines, pushes the envelope, and delivers stories as smart as they are creepy. Oh my goodness - this is a creepy one! Joe is a unique character. But it's almost more psychological than anything else. From the opening horrifying sequence to the last spine chilling page I was absolutely gripped and read the book is just two sittings. I liked the way that the writer described and brought to life the depressed former North Nottinghamshire mining village of Arnhill with its failing academy school, the run down pub and the locals who will never leave and are suspicious of strangers. My Rating: Hell Yeah Book Review. I loved Chalk Man it was one of my favourite reads this year, so when Nick and Lucy said they had read this I knew I had to read it too. The Taking of Annie Thorne suffers the fate of being compared to two books; fans of The Chalk Man will notice the similarities in Tudor's writing style and naturally compare the two; and the specific plot of the book invites, unintentionally or not, comparison to a certain iconic Stephen King novel.

I found it fascinating and revolting. And then, miraculously, after forty-eight hours, she came back. After almost thirty years, Joseph Thorne returns to the Nottinghamshire town of Arnhill to take up a teaching position at the local academy. Then, on the other hand, you will want to take your time, savouring each and every page and treasuring the story. Everyone thought the worst. I have to throw in a disclaimer, there are some severe and nasty cases of bullying in this book, which might upset some readers. There just wasn't one character in this book that I actually really loved, and cared about which was a little bit of an odd experience especially when it came to the emotional parts of the story. This is a novel that defies genre boundaries – is it crime? Joe has to face old friends and enemies, what they did in the past and what is happening now.

You got to read this book, its scary and a few times I was hiding behind my hands lol not daring to read another line but obviously carried on anyway haha, seriously good book, it's thrilling and scary and also funny in parts. I apologise that this review is rather vague on the whole but the nature of a mystery is, well, just that, and it wouldn't be very mysterious if I start dishing out the spoilers. Initially set in modern day Nottinghamshire, as the story progresses you start to get parts of the 90s back story of when the protagonist's sister, Annie, went missing when she was 8 and he was 15. His heart is in the right place, although he doesn't like anyone getting close to him, he uses sarcasm as a defence mechanism.
