Conclusion: I loved this book. We do not actually get to meet her in the book. What is wrong with me that I am rooting for this girl and loving every sneaky little thing she is doing? Alessandra is the kind of woman that people are afraid to write. There may be some moments that can be a bit sad, but those will be over quite quickly. The two of them are determined to use each other for their own purposes and obviously things don't go quite as either of them planned. I've been in a massive reading slump recently and still haven't finished The Lost Book of the White but I just had to read The Shadows Between Us. I'm actually disappointed it was a standalone because I would the hell out of a sequel here. Leandros finds Alessandra weeping on the floor, and she kisses him to numb her pain. I was a little worried at first, The Shadow King, or similar, is a name I have heard in a few other plots that started storing, only to disappoint. He puts down anyone who crosses his path while being targeted for assassination on a daily basis. The Shadow King has the power to call shadows to his aid. The love interest in this book is the Shadow King AKA Kallias. First of, this had to be one of my MOST aanticepated titles of 2020! With Alessandra and Kallias both being pretty villainous themselves, it could be Xanthos that was the good guy after all. Kallias' trust in Alessandra is shattered and he orders her to leave and never come near him again. I love Tricia Levenseller's other books but this just doesn't do it for me. I really hope this becomes a series and I know our teen book club will love it. It's not a super long book, and I was interested enough that it flew by, so it would be a great palate cleanser after a long or dry book. It's just my personal issue with a hero doing something fundamentally wrong, not for any acceptable reason that could make me "understand" and forgive. This book was described by the author as her "Slytherin Romance" book and those words made it automatically shoot to the very top of my TBR pile. One of the first things she set out to do at the palace was build strong relationships with other females in residence. For a moment, Kallias doesn't believe Alessandra, until he really looks at "Leandros". 'Don't be afraid of who you are. She finds herself struggling to keep him alive long enough for her to marry him–all the while trying to keep her heart intact. She plans to marry, kill the king, then make herself the only ruler of the kingdom. She was ambitious, selfish, ruthless, cunning and manipulative.

A vividly written novel that will blow your socks off. Especially her father Sergios Stathos who would marry her off to a minor noble in a New York minute and her sister who never once said anything positive about her. They quickly become Alessandra's friends there. Alessandra and Kallias. Shrouded in a mysterious power, no one is allowed to touch him.
