At times, this was reminiscent of the old '80s classic, Clue, and at other times it read quite similar to L. E. Flynn's The Girls Are All So Nice Here, which I rather enjoyed!

Interspersed throughout the novel are third person chapters from other characters' perspectives. Their strong friendship bond consists of lies, betrayal, rivalry. Because she seemed unlikeable to me, I failed to understand why two of the men in her group loved her, and her inability to choose between them. So, I jumped to read and review it. This book gave me the very rare experience in life of being grateful that I missed out on the traditional university experience. Jessica, Heather, Jack, Mint, Coop, Frankie and Caro. They used to be known as the East House Seven until one of them was brutally murdered. Of you're into books with a dark academia setting and a kick ass mystery, read this book NOW 😍. I went into this book blind! In My Dream I Hold a Knife is a 5 star mystery/thriller that has truly wow'ed me! Jessica had more chemistry with Coop but given her personality and motivations her relationship with Mint made sense.

That feeling almost never happens these days. Listening to the audio performed by Vanessa Johansson is a must. Kudos to Winstead, as it is difficult to see where the plot is headed before it actually goes there. I just recommend keeping a little chart of who is who until you get far enough along in the novel that you no longer need it. Now, a decade later, it's time for the big ten-year class reunion, but only five of the seven will be attending. Jessica is a really hard character to like. I read this book in one sitting, desperate to find out who actully killed Heather and how exactly they got away with it. I loved the writing style with the jumping back and forth in time, and I love that it's mostly told in Jessica's POV but we also get singular chapters from some of the other characters. And when I had to sit and eat, I asked everyone at the table it if was okay for me to read. I absoutely loved, loved, loved it! For something it could have been but now it's too late. Their time on campus was filled with highs and lows as each tried to find their place. I normally don't love a dual timeline, but the past and present flashbacks were done really well in this.
