Humanoids From The Deep – How To Develop Original Recipes
Black Comedy Rape: Several women are raped by Fish People; the film seems unsure about whether it's black comedy or serious horror. The way the film uses the Humanoids, dialing back their stalking of pretty girls and murdering the men, changing them from the rampage and rape nightmares they were to creatures that instead of satisfying their desires on the spot, store victims in a slimy hive to perhaps be used off camera and changing the climax from hand-to-webbed-hand combat with the townspeople to just being blown up by the military, strips them and the movie of any creepiness or dread. At first presumed dead, once no female bodies are recovered though, speculation naturally turns to the idea that the Humanoids are keeping all the women for themselves at some type of monster whorehouse. But you get the idea. Humanoids From The Deep isn't the most attractive film visually and really doesn't have any artistic merit whatsoever, but it is certainly Fun with a capital F if, like me, you have a weakness for this kind of movie! Plot: monster, sea creature, creature feature, scuba diving, mutant, creature, aquatic humanoid, animal horror, underwater scene.

Plot: shark, shark attack, animal attack, experiment gone awry, characters killed one by one, predator, science runs amok, scientist, killer shark, female scientist, experiment, mutation... 33%. But it is a fun and breezy (if sleazy) take. Humanoids From The Deep is a straight down-the-line, unashamedly trashy monster movie that doesn't try to be any more than it is, and I like it a lot. The story of a group of vicious sea creatures rising up from the waters near a small fishing community to mate with the local women and killing anybody that got in their way was a modest hit but received poor reviews from critics.
It's also another follow-up to Alien (1979), as indicated by the climactic scene. That film might be fairly gore as well, but it entirely lacks the campy, light-headed fun of this original. Style: psychotronic, cult film. The two rape scenes in Humanoids From The Deep, though distasteful, last about five seconds each so I really don't see what the problem was [and this is coming from someone who often finds the portrayal of rape in cinema very morally questionable].
