And while the story is good it's not properly fleshed out and just feels hollow and too much like JLA is explaining something to you rather than trying to make you feel like you're there I continue to listen to it because I want to know what happens in the story but the way that she writes it is just very amateur and at times painful to get through. As always, Armentrout balances of all the intensity with lots of funny moments. It was also interesting to see Malik, learn more about Millicent, and who she really was. I don't read the blurbs in series I am listening to and was initially surprised. Obviously, a group of them heads out to the Blood Forest, with Poppy and Casteel, to find Malec–they do eventually find the location of Malec's resting place, based on Eloana's description, but they have to keep going further to find it–it's in a cave near the ruins. Not when I want him to come closer. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times with his quips. I have stood in the shadow of Lionel Acrux for far too long already.
I have one complain though: I don't like the choice made at the end of the story. I've loved this book series very much and have listened to them multiple times… that being said, anyone who is surprised and upset at what happens in chapter 44… OMGoodness, GET OVER IT! War is coming and the stakes for Casteel and Poppy have never been higher. Although I am not in a rush to read the next when it comes out as don't feel so devoted to the story anymore.

In my option this comes from changing to two POVs and making Castille stupid and Poppy obsessed. This book picks up shortly after the hideous cliffhanger of The Crown of Gilded Bones left me raw and hanging, desperate for resolution. The Harbinger Series, Book 1. Specifically, I love seeing thing from Casteel's point of view for once, and seeing how much he worships Poppy. I missed Casteel despite getting chapters from his perspective and a bit of magic. We all KNOW Kieran thinks Poppy asks too many questions.
But the night she tries to buy her freedom, she barely escapes with her life. I am happy that Kieran and Casteel are connected through Poppy so we will need to worry less about them dying since Poppy is practically impossible to kill.
