But they have this mean streak too, and some of the gymnastic rhythms, coupled with Moog and guitar solos, point to a love for complex instrumental progressive rock. You won't find this in Kozmigroov. This one features organist Steve Robinson from Twenty Sixty Six and Then, and plays down their later fusion tendencies. Out of nowhere comes this obscure Krautrock tape, that reminds me most of the Erna Schmidt archival release. I understand not wanting to add deathcore or mathcore in... but at least with Metalcore, you could use "Metalcore, Death Metal" for Deathcore instead of Hardcore, Death metal" which is a little more removed (and "Metalcore, Math Rock" for Mathcore, or whatever). The easiest and most delightful place to start is probably Charli XCX—someone on the glitzy pop side of it who continues to make fun, sleek, and approachable alternative music. So naturally this is a jazz fusion work... All new material, it is in effect a brand new studio release and the recording is stellar. African Sun and My Dear Groovin are also at a high level of melody, atmosphere, and grooves. It's as if a new treasure had been found in the caves.
Jazz is an American music style which originated around the beginning of the 20th century in African American communities in the south from a mix of African and European music traditions. I was losing faith that In Search of the Ghost was going to be anything special. I find all the tracks to be excellent, save perhaps the middling 'Song From India', though none are extraordinary either. Musically it's easy to consider In the Diving Bell as a continuation of where the band was at with Space Guerrilla. Using a throaty growl does not make one necessarily into a hardcore band. Zyma's debut full length album finds itself somewhere between the mid to late 70s Continental European prog sound - as influenced by Frank Zappa - and the instrumental greatness that was Tortilla Flat.
