Loth is struggling to reach his destination as he has to combat the element, the sickness in him and the wild creatures but one comes to his aid and carries him to the edge of the desert meaning he is one step closer to delivering Jondu's parcel to Chassar. With magic, untrustworthy characters, and a masked vigilante running around, you can't help but fall in love with this story. However, Tane is able to recover her jewel from the Prioress' body and manages to escape Kalyba thanks to one of the Damsels with both the jewel and fruit. I remember seeing this book showcased maybe once or twice on my TikTok and subtly displayed at Barnes & Noble, but from what I have seen, this book has touched so many people so I think that we all need to do our due diligence and place this book back into the public spotlight.

The story does center around queer characters, but there is not a lot of romance so if you just want to read about queer people in space living life with heartbreaking longing then this book is for you. I did the same with Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner series, devouring it as fast as I possibly could. I found The Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, and spent a whirlwind of a year reading her epic fantasy series. Unique and quick to read, it is definitely worth it as you watch our mc grow into herself and challenge her own school. The book explores different political motives, romance, magic, and dragons! This book does have a lot of jargon and the world is a little unexplained, but I think that was done on purpose so I just rolled with it and enjoyed the characters. Personally, I recommend reading Priory first because it gives you a broader understanding of the world of The Roots of Chaos.
