Obviously directors Ron Clements and John Musker knew that this was a very key moment in the film, and finessed it to sparkle and shine, and most of all, be memorable. At least I hope so. ) Her lips are moist and soft. But poor old me, here I am still having a hard time with how flat and unappealing the frog characters look. Princess Emerelda is not an ordinary princess at all. And thankfully, we are spared another 'coming of age' rock video montage a la Lion King, Tarzan, where we watch the lead character struggle through youth and puberty, triumphantly emerging as an incredibly perfect, full grown, young adult specimen. My first time reading this first novel in the 'Tales of the Frog Princess' series and it wasn't very good. In order to return to his previous handsome state, he must impress the spoiled Princess and break the spell. I first read the series when I was a small girl with my brother and something about just stuck with me. The first two sons find either ordinary women or princesses.

Princess Emma believes she is the worst princess and witch in all of Greater Greensward, and when she is told she has to marry a shellfish prince she runs of into a swamp only to find a frog who claims he is a prince and a kiss from her would turn him human again. Along the way she meets new friends and learns about the power of a kiss. The chancellor bows, then scoops me up out of my tank where I'd just been contemplating eating a nice dead fly. Once again though, the film sets off into a BIG show tune kind of a number. For a moment, I think she's gone, disappeared like dew. Seems the overriding opinion is that it was simply A-OK. Sweet, nice, un-offensive and living up to expectations for the most part. When her son was four, the family moved to the state of Maryland. It was absurd that they ever stopped. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series, but this is a great book to give kids. At least here it was tastefully implemented. I genuinely like it a lot.

I would also recommend it to people who are fans of Ella Enchanted, where the fairy tale is turned on its head in a way that makes the girl more active in the story. I picked this one up on Monday when I was bored out of my mind. I want it to sweep me away like a magical cross between Myasaki's 'Spirited Away' and Disney's timeless classic 'Pinocchio'.

As easily as I am turned off, I am turned back on, and biting hook line and sinker. I think I hit this one a little late, which is why its three stars for me, but I would definitely give it to a younger reader, or someone who really loves reinvented fairy tales.
