The emergence of cosy queer fantasy is my favourite thing about the publishing industry at the moment, and this book included all the reasons why: glorious storytelling and world building, a healthy, joyful romance between two strong-willed, powerful women from different worlds, and an atmosphere I desperately wanted to be part of, if only to sip my tea and watch everyone fall in love. I didn't upstar it only because it was slow to start and, although I liked it, I'm not rushing to download the 2nd book. Reyna is repeatedly referred to as 'the ex-guard' even when her former profession has zero bearing on the current scene, and this is one of those things that once I notice an author does it, I can't stop noticing it. ) Parts of the worldbuilding were intriguing, particularly the magic systems, but a lot of the politics and technology felt somewhat flimsy and implausibly convenient. Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne. I hope that definitely works out. The fl kinda pathetic. The building was abandoned, the repairs are handled magically in one afternoon, they get permission from the leaders with one conversation, they just have to take one trip to go get the tea and books, the townsfolk are not suspicious of them at all and immediately start going every day, and they have literally no issues with any part of running their shop. But it didn't work for me.

But I couldn't read before it's release, so it was nice finding it on KU and getting to it when I was in the right mood for it. They think they can start fresh and be just far enough out of reach to start a life together. The villainess needs a tyrant 35. Although I wish Gossley had been developed a bit more for having a purpose beyond, seemingly, only existing to make Reyna look like a better and more empathetic person, I enjoyed the dynamic between him and Reyna nonetheless in between Kianthe and Reyna's never-ending banter. That's cozy, right??

It could have worked, but they just didn't seem to have any discernible chemistry. Like, the middle of a deadly dragon battle is maybe not the time for a passionate groping? A cozy fantasy that was a nice read overall, but wasn't quite what I'd hoped it would be. Where's the silver hair boy??? All of the manhwa new will be update with high standards every hours. If you want to use them, more power to you. This book jumped too much between danger at every corner and something soft and warm. The Tyrant Wants To Live Honestly. This made the tone hard to read at times. I didn't know going into it that it was going to be a series but I'm definitely excited to continue.

Like, I'm very here for the wlw rep, but the TIMING of Reyna & Kianthe's lascivious flirtations and intense makeouts made me want to die of secondhand embarrassment and/or frustration. This also included excellent incorporation of non-binary characters into its setting. The tyrant wants to live honestly spoiler. It did unfortunately feel like 3/4 of a book, as it tried to juggle too much, and ended up leaving too many bits of the story unfinished to carry into a sequel, which left me feeling incomplete. Can't Spell Treason Without Tea has been on my TBR since I saw the title. Even better news: you've found one of the best offerings to exist in this relatively new genre. SO DELIGHTFUL THOUGH! The Tyrant Wants To Live Honestly Spoiler

Let me start by saying that this is 100% mistitled as a cozy fantasy. The love they have for one another is probably the only reason I didn't DNF this book because it was just SO wholesome and sweet. 5 rounded up because there's a few not-so-cozy parts. The author's first thanks in her acknowledgements is to Travis Baldree for writing Legends & Lattes and inspiring her to write this book, and it definitely shows. I felt like I understood what I needed to understand about the countries, rulers, different cultures, magic etc. Reyna is a palace guard under the ruthless Queen Tilaine who runs away with her powerful mage girlfriend Kianthe. On a completely personal note, I missed chemistry between Rain and Key. Is sort of brushed off with a "well, we'll look more into that later, " not even afforded a proper cliff-hanger. I wanted to like this so much more than I did. Matild and Tarly were amazing right from the beginning, offering their help.

Instead, here we are. This is a nice, gripping read full of twists and turns with a nice romance, my only regret is that the relationship between Rayna and Kianthe always rests at kisses and then fade to black so it's what some readers might call a clean romance - meaning no sex scenes. Also the far reaches of the Queen and her petty ire, had made her stay, too fearful of the consequences. Would not recommend. A thing happens; and then the characters react, not vice versa. We have a bookstore! Also, these plotlines don't even get resolved!!! Kianthe and Reyna are wonderfully flawed characters, but their communication and coping skills with each other is so beautiful. I'm pretty sad about it. Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review*. Very similar premise to Legends & Lattes, but with a higher stakes plot, a lot of wish-fullfillmenty/fanficcy fluff, unapologetic puns, and PDA. I cannot get enough of this and will be buying a physical copy to add to my bookshelf. I'm also a big fan of Reyna and Kianthe's relationship, as it was noticably realistic and healthy. The characters are diverse, and the town of Tawney and its inhabitants are loveable.

Witty, well-paced writing that's a delight to read? Still, I did read the whole thing, and would be willing to recommend it (with caveats) to cozy fantasy fans who are more into *vibes* than a tightly-written and well-paced plot, provided you also aren't as wildly uncomfortable with ass-smacking in the workplace as I am. Maybe this was meant to be a building kind of energy? Lol… yeah, after reading legends & lattes I'm sorry to say this is basically low-grade fanfiction of that. I was begging the author to just SHOW US through their COMMUNICATION!!! Let me get a little serious for a moment.

Firstly, what I enjoyed: Reyna & Kianthe are both great characters with distinct personalities and I really enjoyed their relationship and dynamic.
